Dr. Anastasia Ignatieva is not just a highly skilled plastic surgeon but a trailblazer in Ukraine’s medical field, particularly in the realm of reconstructive plastic surgery. With her unmatched expertise, she has become one of the most sought-after specialists in Europe, transforming lives through her innovative approach to both aesthetic and reconstructive procedures. At just 31 years old, she has already achieved remarkable milestones, including founding the prestigious International Clinic of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Kyiv and Marbella. As one of the first women in Ukraine to rise to prominence in this male-dominated field, her journey is a testament to her relentless passion, vision, and groundbreaking achievements.
As one of the world’s top female plastic surgeons, what do you believe sets your approach and techniques apart from others in the industry?
My approach focuses on combining cutting-edge medical innovation with a deep understanding of my patients’ emotional and psychological needs. I believe that plastic surgery is more than just physical transformation—it’s about helping people reclaim their confidence and sense of self. Whether it’s aesthetic procedures or complex reconstructive surgeries, I prioritize natural results and minimal scarring, always striving to restore balance and harmony in a way that feels authentic to each patient. My proprietary techniques, such as structural rhinoplasty that delivers super natural results, and my periorbital area repair method, which helps rejuvenate the eyes, reflect my commitment to both innovation and patient comfort, allowing for faster recovery times and optimal outcomes.
2. Your work spans both Kyiv and Paris, two culturally rich cities. How do the aesthetics and patient expectations differ between these locations, and how do you adapt to these differences?
Kyiv and Paris are indeed very different, not only culturally but also in terms of patient expectations. In Kyiv, my patients tend to prioritize more dramatic transformations, often seeking noticeable enhancements that reflect their personal and social ambitions. In Paris, however, the aesthetic is more understated and refined, with a focus on subtle enhancements that preserve a natural look. I adapt to these differences by tailoring my consultations and procedures to meet the unique desires of my patients in each location. For instance, in Paris, I focus on techniques that enhance natural beauty, while in Kyiv, I may emphasize more visible changes. Understanding the cultural nuances of beauty in each city is crucial to delivering results that align with my patients’ visions.
3. Running an international clinic requires a unique blend of medical expertise and business acumen. What challenges have you faced in managing your clinics across multiple countries, and how have you overcome them?
Managing clinics in different countries involves navigating not only medical regulations but also the logistical challenges of international business. One major challenge is ensuring that the quality and level of care are consistent across locations. To overcome this, I’ve built strong, well-trained teams in each city who understand my standards and protocols. Communication is key—I maintain close contact with all of my staff to ensure everyone is aligned with the clinic’s vision. Additionally, staying up to date with the regulatory environments in each country requires constant attention, but it is essential to maintain compliance and protect both patients and the business. Balancing medical practice with business management has been a steep learning curve, but it has also been immensely rewarding.
4. Given the growing demand for cosmetic procedures worldwide, how do you stay at the forefront of innovation while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and satisfaction?
Innovation is a core part of my practice, but it must always be balanced with patient safety. I stay on the cutting edge by attending international conferences, collaborating with top surgeons globally, and continually investing in the latest medical technology. I also ensure that every new technique or procedure I adopt has undergone rigorous testing and proven its safety and efficacy. Patient satisfaction comes from listening to their needs and maintaining open communication throughout their journey—this ensures that they not only get the best possible result but also feel cared for and understood at every step of the process.
5. As a pioneer in your field, what advice would you give to young female surgeons aspiring to make a mark in the plastic surgery industry?
My advice would be to never let doubt or external opinions limit your potential. Plastic surgery, like many fields of medicine, can be male-dominated, but don’t let that intimidate you. Work on honing your craft, continue learning, and stay curious about the innovations happening in the field. Be patient and persistent, as building a career takes time. Most importantly, never lose sight of why you chose this path—plastic surgery is about changing lives, and that should always be at the heart of your work. Embrace mentorship, build a strong network of support, and don’t be afraid to take risks when it comes to innovation. Your unique perspective as a woman is a strength in this industry, and it can offer patients a different kind of understanding and care.
