Gilda Garza, a renowned Mexican artist, captivates the world with her vibrant colors and evocative interpretations. Celebrated for her unique “Kings and Queens” collection, Garza’s work embodies empowerment and true love. Drawing inspiration from art icons like Gustav Klimt and Pablo Picasso, her creations reflect a deep respect for tradition and an innovative spirit. Garza’s versatility shines through her use of diverse mediums, and her prestigious collaboration with Murano Glass marks a significant achievement in her career. Through her art, Garza brings joy, empowerment, and a sense of royalty to her audience, leaving an indelible mark on the contemporary art scene.

Your artwork is celebrated for its vibrant colors and captivating interpretations of deck cards. Can you share the inspiration behind your signature style?

My collection “Kings and Queens” represents how we deserve to be treated. It’s about feeling empowered and loved. My inspiration for this collection is true love. In a relationship, your partner needs to make you feel like a King or Queen. Given all of the images popularized by social media, people often feel disenchanted with themselves. I created the collection to inspire people to pursue love and to surround themselves with people who treat them like the royalty they are. Growing up, I always saw the way my grandfather treated my grandmother: like a queen, and vice versa. The mutual respect they had for each other fueled their everlasting love and my desire to never settle.

As one of the most influential artists in Mexico, your work draws from diverse influences like Gustav Klimt and Pablo Picasso. How do these influences shape your creative process?

Picasso’s influence on modern and contemporary art is hard to overstate. His contributions to the Cubist movement changed the way artists approached representation, and his willingness to experiment and break with tradition has inspired generations of artists. Gustav Klimt had a reputation for being the painter of feminine beauty and eroticism. Both artists are a big inspiration for me, and this is reflected in my art.

Your collaboration with Murano Glass in Italy is truly remarkable. Can you tell us more about how this collaboration came about and what it means to you as an artist?

Murano Glass, a luxury product from the city of enchantment, Murano, is globally known for its rich beauty, quality, and elegance. With hundreds of years of glassmaking history, the majority of objects are handcrafted and made in furnaces. The rich history of glass is considered the story of Murano. I feel very proud to bring my country’s name to the highest level of the art world through this collaboration. Owning a Murano Glass piece signifies not only having class but also being a part of a long Venetian tradition and knowing how to enjoy the finer things in life.

Your ability to work with various mediums like oil, acrylic, and spray paint on canvas showcases your versatility as an artist. How do you navigate between these mediums to bring your artistic vision to life?

My mom taught me when I was a child not to mix oil and acrylic. Acrylic goes first, and then the oil. That’s a rule, but beyond that, I love to explore the mediums and use my creativity. I use feathers, crystals, and anything I think will look good in my paintings. I never leave a painting if I don’t really love it. Once I fall in love with it, it is ready to go. That’s the hardest part because I want to keep them all, but it’s all worth it once I give it to my collectors. When my art is hanging on their walls, a new story begins for my paintings and the families. I can see how my art brings life to the mural where they are. I love to bring happiness, empowerment, and love through my art.
